The tech ecosystem grows more competitive every day. In as much as job opportunities in the field are available, you will need to stand out among thousands of applicants to get that role you want.

Here are some tips on how you can stand out:

1. Stay up to date

Follow new tech trends and keep in touch with what is new in the ecosystem. Try and gain a basic understanding of new emergent technologies.

This could be the baseline for your next interview!

2. Build your portfolio

Whether through social media, a blog, GitHub, or any other platform, keep an updated profile. Keeping a portfolio is a way of keeping track of the skills you have gained over the years.

Your portfolio will define where you stand in the tech ecosystem during your job application.

3. Give back to the tech community

This can be through participating in open source projects, publishing tech articles, and volunteering in tech communities, among others.

This cements your interest in the field and shows you are willing to contribute to the growth of the field.

4. Master your craft

Master your field, simple as that.

5. Build your communication skills

Many techies pride themselves on being nerds. However, to stand out in the field, you must get out of that shell and create networks.

Be loud, whether on social media or in the literal sense. Let people know you, and don't be afraid to speak your mind when necessary.

6. Network, Network!!

Sometimes like it or not, it is about who you know and not what you know. So create those networks; look for those big names in tech and make sure they know who you are and what you do. If they ever find an opportunity in your field, you might get the call you are waiting for.

You will have to be one in thousands to get that high paying role you are eyeing.
